How can we explain project management?
What is project management?
In simple terms, project management is the art of managing one or more projects. Wikipedia defines it as follows: Project management is an approach aimed at organizing the smooth execution of a project, the subject of a contract, etc., from start to finish. It encompasses all the operational and tactical aspects that ensure a project is completed within a triangle representing the balance of quality, cost, and time (QCD).
This is usually the role of the project manager. Generally speaking, this person's responsibility is to combine strategy (planning) and operations (execution) to successfully complete the project. First, you must plan the project's progress phases and define strategic objectives with stakeholders. Then, you execute the plan, managing resources (equipment, personnel, etc.) and constraints (objectives, deadlines, and costs) throughout the process.
Important: Effective project management requires effective task management. Projects are often broken down into smaller, more manageable parts (tasks, activities, or milestones). Since the success of your project depends primarily on completing tasks on time, they are often prioritized and scheduled. To ensure the project stays on schedule, it's crucial to meet deadlines and complete tasks according to dependencies and priorities.
The Benefits of Good Project Management
Naturally, good project management offers numerous benefits:
Meeting the expectations of all stakeholders
Providing order and clarity
Maintaining focus and specific objectives
Optimizing resources
Defining a realistic action plan
Ensuring quality control
Managing risks
Ensuring continuous monitoring
Reducing the risk of failure
Managing success and failure (and learning from them!)
And in turn, all of this significantly motivates your team. It goes without saying that, once again, this ultimately leads to better projects. Everyone wins, truly.
